Israel Roa Villagra (QEP)
Nació el 28 de mayo de 1909, en la ciudad de Angol, considerado el mejor acuarelista nacional, pero igualmente brillante en el óleo, se ha entusiasmado con el embrujo del paisaje criollo y los mitos de Chile con una chispa satírica muy honda.
El valiente pintor de las pinceladas enérgicas y la rapidez para conseguir la transparencia de la aguada, fue el último discípulo de Juan Francisco González que lo recomendó para un viaje a Europa, en el lejano 1931, su perfeccionamiento en el viejo mundo se cumplió posteriormente, gracias a una beca Humbolt, que le permitió recorrer los grandes monumentos artísticos entre 1937 y 1938, regresando poco antes de la última conflagregación mundial, pero muy rápidamente le atrae Brasil donde permanece durante 1944 - 1945.
El artista bebió en la sabiduría del criollismo auténtico, sin embargo, no ha desistido del aporte contemporáneo con feliz licencia dramática. La producción de Roa merece un análisis atento, pues estamos ante una obra muy chilena, entendida en su dimensión más amplia.
Las recompensas han sido muchas, consiguiendo en el salón oficial. Primer premio en 1933, para continuar con el premio principal, en viña del mar, en 1942. El Premio de Honor del Salón Oficial le fue conferido en 1946, con un envío que todavía se recuerda con nostalgia. Premio Nacional de Arte en el año 1985, siendo el mejor reconocimiento Nacional a este artista Angolino.
