  REGIMIENTO DE CABALLERÍA BLINDADA Nº3 "HÚSARES"
 

RESEÑA HISTÓRICA

 
1. ANTECEDENTES:


Húsar: soldado de caballería ligera, vestido a la húngara en el siglo XV (huszar), montados en caballos de poca alzada, ágiles y sobrios.

En Hungría (su origen), los "húsares" fueron una milicia de caballería organizada que después de vencer a la caballería turca y apoderarse de Constantinopla, aseguraron a sus huestes el Imperio en el oriente europeo, destacándose también por su destreza y audacia en las guerras de Austria contra otros países del Viejo Mundo.

En España, en 1808 existía el Regimiento "Húsares" de Farnesio y en 1809 se crea el Regimiento de "Husares" de Galicia a los cuales perteneció el Sargento Mayor chileno don José Miguel Carrera.

1. FUNDACIÓN

En Chile, los "Húsares" aparecen en Santiago por Decreto de la Primera Junta de Gobierno el 02 de Diciembre de 1810, siendo su primer Comandante el Teniente Coronel don Joaquín de Toro y Valdés (hijo del Conde de la Conquista) y su 2do. Comandante el Sargento Mayor don Pedro José de Ugarte.

2. GUARNICIÓN DE SANTIAGO

El 23 de Marzo de 1818 y después de la sorpresa de Cancha Rayada, el Coronel don Manuel Rodríguez Erdoíza, quien fuera también su Comandante, lo reorganiza con el nombre de "Húsares de la Muerte", constituyendo la única fuerza organizada que existía en ese confuso instante en Santiago.

Su uniforme era negro, llevando una calavera blanca y dos tibias cruzadas en los "parches" del cuello (que usaron hasta el 01 de Marzo de 1982) y en el centro de la copa del kepís en la vísera, queriendo señalar que jamás se rendirían.

El 2 de Noviembre de 1819 y considerando que la mayoría del 4to. Escuadrón del Regimiento Argentino "Granaderos a Caballo" era chileno, se dispuso su independencia bajo la denominación de "Húsares de Marte" al mando del Teniente Coronel don Benjamín Viel (Oficial napoleónico), participando en la "guerra a muerte" en 1820, hasta el 03 de octubre de 1822, en que pasan a constituir el Escuadrón "Dragones" de Chillán.

El 04 de septiembre de 1821, justo después de 10 años del comienzo de su vida pública en Chile y luego de un espúreo proceso, es fusilado en Mendoza el Gral. don
JOSE MIGUEL CARRERA Y VERDUGO, primer Comandante en Jefe del Ejército y Patrono del Regimiento.

En 1830 participó en la guerra civil al mando del Coronel Francisco Porras. Entre el 12 de Agosto y el 31 de Diciembre de 1837, se organizaron los "Húsares de la Guardia del General" que participaron en la 1ra. Campaña de la Guerra contra la Confederación Perú - Boliviana como escolta del Almirante Manuel Blanco Encalada, Comandante en Jefe de la Expedición (Iquique - Arequipa).

3. GUARNICIONES DE PROVINCIA

a.   Entre 1885 y 1891, diferentes Escuadrones de "Húsares" cubrieron las siguientes      Guarniciones:

A partir de Enero de 1885 , cubre como Escuadrón las Guarniciones de Angol y Lonquimay, en 1897 Victoria, Ercilla, Liucura y Curacautín, llevando como insignia 2 sables cruzados, ligados por una corona de laurel, existiendo hasta el 01 de Enero de 1888.   En 1891 y a raíz de la guerra civil, el Presidente Balmaceda movilizó varias Unidades de "Húsares", empezando el 09 de Enero con un Escuadrón de 205 jinetes en collipulli (15 Oficiales) al mando del Teniente Coronel don Simón Moraga.
          
El 2 de Octubre de 1891 y por Decreto Supremo Nº231 del triunfante gobierno del Almirante don Jorge Montt, se reorganizó definitivamente en Angol como Escuadrón de Caballería Nº3 "Húsares", al fusionarse los Escuadrones "Húsares" de Colmo Nº6, "Húsares" de Victoria y uno del "Granaderos" con una Plana Mayor de 12 hombres y 3 Compañías de 86 hombres cada una, lo que hacía un total de 270 jinetes (16 oficiales) al mando del Teniente Coronel don Tulio M. Padilla Anguita, teniendo como insignia dos sables cruzados con el Nº3 en su parte superior y al medio.

El 6 de Mayo de 1893, pasó a denominarse Regimiento de Caballería Nº 3.  En 1899, está en Tacna y vuelve a tener como insignia definitiva la "calavera con las tibias cruzadas" que lucieron en el cuello hasta el 1º de marzo de 1892, el 24 de Octubre de 1898, se le agregó el nombre de "Húsares" por Decreto Supremo Nº1534 del Presidente Errázuriz.  El 14 de Diciembre de 1903, se le asignó como patrono al General don José Miguel Carrera y Verdugo, héroe de la Patria Vieja y su tercer Comandante, por Decreto Supremo Nº1760 del Presidente Riesco .  

El 17 de Mayo de 1905, volvió desde Tacna a su antigua guarnición en Angol, en un cambio con el R.C.1 "Granaderos", ocupando un Cuartel próximo a la plaza, en el que celebró el 02 de Diciembre de 1910, su primer centenario.  En donde permanece actualmente integrado plenamente a la ciudadanía Angolina.

El 5 de Septiembre de 1931, participó brillantemente en el sofocamiento de la sublevación de la marinería en Talcahuano, muriendo en forma heroica el SG2. Federico Ganga, el CB2. (R) Tulio Miranda Correa y los Conscriptos Porfirio Zapata y Wenceslao Molina a quienes póstumamente se les invistió como "Beneméritos de la Patria".

El 18 de Febrero de 1982 y producto de la evolución del Arma, pasó a denominarse Regimiento de Caballería Blindada Nº3 "Húsares" del General don José Miguel Carrera y Verdugo.

A partir del 10 de Enero del año 1982 y como producto de la unificación de los parches distintivos de las Unidades del Ejército de Chile, los "Húsares" dejaron de lucir en su cuello la emblemática calavera con las tibias cruzadas, pero ella continuó siendo su insignia oficial.

Su dilatada trayectoria como Unidad Militar, ha convertido al Regimiento "Húsares", en el segundo Regimiento más antiguo del Ejército de Chile, Institución que representada por su Comandante en Jefe, CGL. Augusto Pinochet Ugarte, en Ceremonia realizada en la Escuela Militar, el día 23 de Agosto de 1997, le concedió el honor de detentar la Bandera Coronela, Estandarte de Combate que sólo está reservado para los Regimientos Gloriosos de la Nación.

A partir del mes de septiembre de 1999, por disposición del mando institucional, nuevamente los sagrados uniformes de los bizarros soldados de "Húsares", vuelven a lucir su venerada insignia de la calavera con las tibias cruzadas, la cual, con el paso del tiempo centenario, se ha constituido en la prenda más valiosa de las tradiciones y el patrimonio histórico del glorioso Regimiento "Húsares".

3RD ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT "HUSSARDS"


HISTORICAL REVIEW

1. BACKGROUND:


Hussar: Light Cavalry Soldier, dress to the Hungarian in the 15th century (Hussar), mounted on horses of little height, agile and restrained.

In Hungary (origin), the "Hussars" were a cavalry militia organized who, after defeating the Turkish cavalry and seizes of constantinople, they assured their army the East European Empire, standing out also by his skill and boldness in the Austria wars against other countries in the old world.

In Spain, there was the "Hussars" Regiment of Farnesio in 1809 is created the Galicia Regiment "Hussars" to which belonged the Chilean Major Sergeant don José Miguel Carrera.

1. FOUNDATION

In Chile, the "Hussars" appear in Santiago by Decree of the First Government Junta on December 02 1810, being its first Commander the Lieutenant Colonel don Joaquín de Toro y Valdés (son of the conquest count) and his 2nd.

2. SANTIAGO GARRISON

On March 23 1818 and after the surprise of Cancha Rayada, the Colonel don Manuel Rodríguez Erdoíza, who was also its commander, reorganizes under the name of "Hussars of death", constituting the only organized force that existed in this confusing moment in Santiago.

His uniform was black, wearing a white skull and two tibiae cross in the "patches" of the neck (who used until March 01, 1982) and in the center of the cup of the kepi in the visor, wanting to indicate that they never surrender.

On November 2, 1819, and considering that most of the 4th Argentine Regiment Squadron "Granaderos a Caballo" was Chilean, had its independence under the denomination de "Hussars of Mars" with the control of the Lieutenant Colonel Don Benjamín Viel (Napoleonic Official), participating in the "war until death" in 1820, until the October 03 of 1822, in that they happen to constitute the "Dragoons" of Chillán Squadron.

In September 04, 1821, just over 10 years from the beginning of his public life in Chile, and after a process, he was shot to death in Mendoza for the Gen. don JOSE MIGUEL CARRERA Y VERDUGO, first Commander in Chief of the Army and Regiment Employer.

In 1830 he participated in the civil war under the command of the Colonel Francisco Porras. Between August 12 and December 31, 1837, was organized the "Hussars of the General Guard" who participated in the 1st. Campaign of the War against the Confederation of Perú - Bolivian as escort of Admiral Manuel Blanco Encalada, Commander in Chief of the Expedition (Iquique - Arequipa).

3. PROVINCE GARRISON

a.   Between 1885 and 1891, different Squads of "Hussars" covered the following garrison:

From January 1885, as Squad cover the garrison of Angol and Lonquimay, in 1897 Victoria, Ercilla, Liucura and Curacautín, taking as insignia 2 sabers crossed, linked by a laurel wreath, existing until January 01, 1888.   In 1891, and as a result of the civil war, President Balmaceda mobilized several units of "Hussards", beginning on January 09 with a squadron of 205 riders in collipulli (15 officers) command of Colonel lieutenant don Simón Moraga.

On October 2, 1891 and by Presidential Decree N° 231 the triumphant government of Admiral don Jorge Montt, was definitely reorganized in Angol as Cavalry Squadron No. 3 "Hussars", to merge the "Hussars" squadrons of high N° 6, "Hussars" of Victoria and one of the "Grenadiers" with a staff of 12 men and 3 companies of 86 men each one, with a total of 270 riders (16 officials) command by the Lieutenant Colonel don Tulio M. Padilla Anguita, having as insignia two sabers crossed with the Nº 3 in its superior part and the middle.

On May 6, 1893, was renamed Cavalry Regiment No. 3.  In 1899, it is in Tacna and return to have as definitive insignia "skull and crossbones" who wore in the neck until March 1, 1892. On October 24, 1898, the name of "Hussars" was added to the Supreme Decree No. 1534 for the President Errázuriz.  On December 14, 1903, were assigned as the employer to General don José Miguel Carrera y Verdugo, hero of the Old Homeland and its third Commander, by Presidential Decree No. 1760 of President Riesco. 

On May 17, 1905, returned from Tacna to their former garrison in Angol, in a change with the R.C.1 "Grenadiers", occupying a military base next to the plaza, where he held on December 02, 1910, its first Centenary.  Where it remains at present integrated fully Angolina citizenship.

On September 5, 1931, participated in the smothering of the revolt of the sailors in Talcahuano, dying in heroic form the SG2. Federico Ganga, the CB2. (R) Tulio Miranda Correa and the Conscripts Porfirio Zapata and Wenceslao Molina, who posthumously were invested as "Beneméritos de la Patria".

On February 18, 1982 and a product of the evolution of the weapon, was renamed Cavalry Armoured N° 3 "Hussars" Regiment of General don José Miguel Carrera y Verdugo.

From January 10 in 1982 and as a result of the unification of the distinctive patches of the Army Units of Chile, the "Hussars" ceased to wear their neck the iconic skull with crossbones, but continued to be its official insignia.

Its extensive career as a Military Unit, has turned the "Hussars" Regiment in the second Oldest Regiment of the Chilean Army, institution, represented by its Commander in Chief, CGL. Augusto Pinochet Ugarte, in a Ceremony at the Military School, August 23, 1997, granted him the honour to hold the Coronela Flag, Banner of combat that is only reserved for Glorious Regiments of the Nation.

For the month of September of 1999, by order of the institutional control, again sacred uniforms of the bizarre "Hussars" soldiers, return wear its venerated insignia of the skull crossbones, which, with the passing of time (century), has become the most valuable piece of the traditions and heritage of the glorious "Hussars" Regiment.
