  RECORD MUNDIAL DE SALTO A CABALLO
 

Récord Mundial

El 5 de febrero de 1949 en el Regimiento Coraceros de Viña del Mar el entonces capitán junto con su caballo Huaso logran superar los 2,47 metros de altura a las 17:59 horas. Con esta marca batió el récord anterior de 2,44 metros, en manos del jinete italiano Antonio Gutiérrez, en "Ossopo" (27 de octubre de 1938). Asistieron cinco mil personas, entre las que se contaban el Presidente de la República Gabriel González Videla, seis jueces internacionales y la sorprendida tripulación del buque escuela francés “Jean d’Arc”.

Esta prueba estaba inserta en el programa del Concurso Hípico Internacional con la participación de los equipos de salto de Bolivia, Colombia y Chile. En la final estaban los binomios de el Capitán Alberto Larraguibel y Huaso y el Teniente Luis Riquelme en Chileno. En el desempate el obstáculo fue colocada a 2,14 metros. Huaso pasó en la primera oportunidad y Chileno en la segunda. Alberto Larraguibel después de saltar el obstáculo, y al tropezar su cabalgadura al tomar tierra, se arrojó al suelo en una espectacular caída. La próxima altura fue de 2,47 metros para batir el récord mundial. Chileno no pudo pasarlo en sus tres intentos, cayéndose el jinete en la tercera ocasión. El binomio de Larraguibel en su primera tentativa el caballo rehusó el obstáculo, penalizando dos faltas, en la segunda derrivó el salto, con dos faltas más. Pero en la tercera saltó limpiamente logrando el récord mundial.

Hasta la fecha es el único récord mundial deportivo que tiene Chile y, además, uno de los más antiguos en la historia del deporte sin ser batido.


 


 

 
HIGHEST JUMP BY A HORSE WORLD RECORD
World Record

On February 5th, 1949 in the Cuirassiers Regiment of Viña del Mar, the Captain with his horse Huaso manage to overcome the 2.47 meters at 17:59 hrs. With this mark he broke the previous record of 2.44 meters, performed by the Italian rider Antonio Gutiérrez, in "Ossopo" (October 27th 1938). Over 5,000 spectators, which included the President of the Republic Gabriel González Videla, 6 international judges and surprised crew of the French ship school “Jean d’Arc”.

This event was inserted in the program of the International Equestrian competition involving teams from Bolivia, Colombia and Chile. At the end were the Alberto Larraguibel Captain with Huaso and Luis Riquelme Lieutenant with Chileno. In the tiebreaker the obstacle was placed at 2,14 meters. Huaso passed it the first opportunity and Chilean in the second. Alberto Larraguibel after jumping the obstacle, and stumbling his horse to take land, threw itself to the ground in a spectacular fall. The next height was 2,47 metres to break the world record. Chileno could not pass in its three efforts, falling down the rider on the third occasion. The binomial of Larraguibel on his first attempt, the horse refused the obstacle, to penalize for two failures, in the second knock down the jump, with two fouls more. But in the third he jumped cleanly getting the world record.

To date is the only sporting world record which Chile has and, in addition, one of the oldest in the history of the sport without being broken.
